mac os doesn't remember color profile at start up

Since starting with a new mac pro, the operating system doesn't remember the monitors color profiles at at start up.

At start up, the monitor is way too bright, opening the system preferences for monitors, shows the profile and automatically switches to the calibrated profile I have set up.

But it requires that I open the system preferences EVERY time I restart my machine.

This behavior is not mac like... It's just suppose to work.

I have tried re-installing system, setting up new profiles, zapping PRAM, rebuilding desktop, but the behavior remains. Would like to resolve this problem before upgrading to High Sierra.

Suggestions are most appreciated!

Read the steps in the article macOS Sierra: If your display doesn’t look right

If none of these solutions work:

If you have an Apple display and can’t correct the problem, contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider for more help. Don’t attempt to repair the display yourself, because any damage you may cause is not covered under your warranty.

And from system library the plist should not never be deleted .

Might be a corrupt .plist.

Do a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.

Quit the application.

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.

Restart the computer, open the application, and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.

If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.

Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

tried to remove the apple.systempreferenes.plist from both the system library as well as the user library folder, but same results as before. The system knows which monitor to choose from the list, but it doesn't choose it until I open the system prefs for monitor and and actually click on the color button... then it automatically switches to the correct monitor profile without me telling it which one, and there are several to choose from.

thanks for the suggestion, if you have anything else to try, please feel free to share!

it's not an apple display, but it shares the same anomaly with any brand of display I connect it too. And the steps listed, were for setting up a display, which I have already done.. It just doesn't remember that it's been set up after a restart the computer, until I open the system preferences, and click on the color tab, then it magically remembers what was already there.

I am having the same exact issue. I have an MBP in my office. I unhook everything and take it home from work everyday. When I come back in the morning and hook the monitor back up, it has forgotten the color profile that I selected. All I need to do is go back into display settings and click the Color tab, and hey, presto, it's back to normal. It hasn't forgotten the profile that I selected, it basically just isn't applying it until I navigate to the Display preference panel and go to the color tab. There's clearly a MacOS bug here. For what it's worth, I'm running High Sierra 10.13.1 on a late 2013 MacBook Pro.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I'm experiencing exactly the same issue. Doesn't matter whether I'm using my external display or the macbook's own display, I always have to go into settings and click the colour tab before it picks up the relevant profile. As you said, it always then chooses the correct profile, it just doesn't load it on start up. Any suggestions gratefully received!
