No Hey Siri on any iPads w/closed smart cover after IOS 11

I am wondering if anyone else is seeing this: We have iPad Pro, Air 2, Air, Mini 4(2) mini 2, and Hey Siri used to work fine on all of them. After IOS 11, it no longer works IF the smart cover is CLOSED. It DOES WORK if the iPad is locked using the lock button, so locking is not the issue, it's only when the smart cover is closed. I did the usual turn off siri, hey siri, keyboard dialog, restarts, etc. Nothing, and it's on ALL the iPads (they all have smart covers), iPhone 7 (2) both work fine, but they don't have a smart cover. Pro and Air 2 tested with and without USB charger, others require charger.

I scoured the web and tried all kinds of things, I also opened an issue with Apple. If anyone is seeing this let me know, especially if you resolved it.

For anyone interested, I opened a case and was told this is now the way it works. No one can understand the logic, may as well remove hey siri altogether. Please post feedback as this is not going to be fixed without it. I also write a letter to Cook and Federighi about this and recommended they take a serious look at whoever made this change and don't let them be involved in other IOS decisions.

Yes folks, please call them, when I did the person took a while and came back with "we have not heard of this". Also, I did find the other thread that mentioned during beta Apple responded that it was intentional, if that is true we need to band together to let them know this is a ridiculous decision. We have 5 iPads with lot's of HomeKit devices so losing Hey Siri is a BIG loss for us.

Hey Siri, did you know that smart covers are now stupid? And the kicker is Apple likes it that way!

If this was a bug I’d understand temporarily taking this feature away from us, but doing it intentionally without any explanation is nuts. It does nothing but create bad feelings and diminishes the usefulness of HomeKit. It’s a reason NOT to upgrade our iPads to iOS 11. Yay.

I’m restoring my iPad back to iOS 10 right now, and it will stay on iOS 10 until Apple fixes this. I will be recommending to all my friends and colleagues to do the same.
