How do I find the Mac Pro 5,1 Mid 2010 firmware latest update

How do I find the Mac Pro 5,1 Mid 2010 firmware latest update ?

Did the power button shuffle over 10 times and still no working update to High Sierra?

How do I check to see if it did in deed do the firmware update ?

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), 5,1 (mid 2010) 3.2 ghz Quad core

FatMac>MacPro --

I did the firmware update, then booted from the 10.6 DVD to see what, if anything, was going to drop out. I was able to boot that DVD, and use its Disk Utility to "Repair Disk" each of several older MacOS. But My Mac Pro 4,1/5,1 has NO core storage logical volume stuff. All checked out OK.

So my impression is that nothing is lost in the Firmware Update. Of course, if anyone discovers different, please let readers here know!

Thanks for the test and feedback. Since there have been reports of Firmware vulnerabilities on Macs, do we know if that update provides security fixes? When I tried downloading the High Sierra installer to save for future use, I got that firmware updater delivered instead with the OS installer presumably to follow once the update was completed. Fortunately I was able to quit the Firmware updater so I could first learn more about it.

There is already a checksum on the firmware, and if it fails you get a blinking light pattern instead of a normal startup.

I read a report that firmware will now be checked for Integrity monthly. But there was no mention of how that check was to be performed, or what sort of check it was.

It is interesting that there has recently been a firmware update for both this Mac Pro and the MacBook Pro. But that may be merely a coincidence.

I use OWC SSD's on my MacPro 5,1.

First SSD is a 1TB with 2 partitions, then a 480GB SSD.

I try to use Carbon Copy Cloner before I do an update. Clone the 1st SSD partition to the 480 before I install .

This way if I hose the install or something goes wrong. I have one to run with to erase the mess up.

I have a WD Black 2TB for data and downloads and things.

Learned after some pitfalls to always have a backup or 2 even if their a month back.

On another note after putting back my GTX 780 FTW from my PC tower.

I get a Cuda error saying I need a update of which I did before the latest High Sierra update.

Got the driver and CUDA 9 from Nvida s website.

All has gone well as mentioned until the supplemental update.

Other than that have not had any issue come up with Apps or other stuff.

After getting a ATI 5770 of of Ebay, found my old ATI 5770 in a closet at the bottom of a stack of boxes.

Ain't that the way it goes ?

This is coming from personal experience. I have a 2009 Mac Pro 4,1 that has been updated to a 5,1. You need apple's 5,1 firmware and a custom firmware updater. Here is a video of me going through the process The horror of updating and upgrading a old Mac Pro is worth it! - YouTube

And after that I maxed out the Mac Pro as this will be my primary computer setup for editing. Check out the specs, price and process of that here.

I have the last or latest update Apple put out a few years ago.

My MacPro is a 5,1 Mid2010. Looked just encase Apple slipped one thru.

I stand corrected just looked at mine once again and thee it is : MP51.0084.B00

When I got this I do not know last I knew was the MP51.007f.b30 ?

I guess they did slide one thru ?

Anyone else have this boot version?
