"Recovery server could not be contacted" Error Message
What does this mean? I’m trying to reinstall macOS High Sierra! Can’t get past this error message “the recovery server could not be contacted”

I had the same issue after I wiped the drive on my MacBook Pro. When you wiped the drive you selected the wrong format. All you need to do is simply go to disk utilities and erase the drive again, but this time select APFS (Encrypted) rather than just APFS. You may now click Reinstall macOS High Sierra. Side note, make sure you have internet connection in your status bar.

type the date as noted. hit enter. it will say -bash-3.2# again or something similar.
Just close terminal. try to install again
I didnt use utc time and it worked for me. Just noting that in case local time works for them and not utc.
Thank you....this worked for me. My date was showing 1/1/00.
Type "date" and then enter....see what it says. If it is wrong, then type date insert space and then use the date format that is posted earlier. Worked for me.
Turn on your wifi
Check the date/time fix.
iMac couldn’t restore because the recovery server can not be reach

I noticed my mac was not connected to the wireless network. After I connected it, the error was gone and the reinstall started...
