Links not opening appropriately

I just installed High Sierra this week and since then I've noticed an issue with it not opening links appropriately. If I get an email or message in Slack with a url link and I click on it, it doesn't open the correct website. Instead, it opens on the home page in a new browser window.

So if I have a link and click it, I don't land on the site I get a new window opened to Google. I have Chrome set as my default browser. Is there a setting that may be causing this or is it a bug?

It happened to me a second time and I wondered if another Chrome upgrade was needed [and why Chrome should be causing this issue].

I went to the About/Chrome menu which leads to a Chrome web page [rather than the usual Apple pop-up] which said:

Google Chrome

Nearly up to date! Relaunch Google Chrome to finish updating.

Version 62.0.3202.89 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Although it said it had already auto-updated to 62.0.3202.89 the fix did not happen until I relaunced and then links were OK again.

Updating to Version 62.0.3202.62 solved the issue.

I upgraded to Version 62.0.3202.94 (Official Build) (64-bit) and this resolved my issue

Hi,

The link problem is recuring for me, since I marked this as “solved”. It happens on a regular basis: links will again fail to open properly. Each time it happens, I do as Colin Cohen explains: Chrome > About > and each and everytime I discover that Chrome is asking me for a relaunch. Each time I do releauch, link are opening properly again. No need in my case to restart the machine. Currently running Version 62.0.3202.94 (Official Build) (64-bit) and all is fine.

My guess is that you have auto-update on for Chrome so that a reboot is effectively the same as quitting and relaunching Chrome. If it recurs, as it has for me, try just a quit and relaunch first to see if it works. Seems a Chrome issue rather than Apple in retrospect. If I get it again I'll change my default browser to Safari to check it out.

Same here, Chrome set as default browser (Version 61.0.3163.100): links various apps (Pages, Reeder, Tweetbot, Mail) don’t open at all: instead Chrome open a blank tab.

I have the same problem only as of this morning, though I installed High Sierra last week. I am already on Chrome version 62.0.3202.62 so sadly your solution did not solve the issue.
