Calculator widget on notification panel

Hi everyone,

I'd like to know if anyone found this problem after the upgrade to macOS High Sierra.

The calculator widget on notification panel presents a bug: presents by default the number 475 (not zero).

Scenario 1: (re)start the computer, go to the notification panel and the calculator presents the number 475.

Scenario 2: Press "ac" and the calculator goes to 'zero'. Good. I can make calculations... everything fine. But: a) if I left the notification panel and come back in a short time (5 seconds), the calculator presents the number from the last action; b) but if I come back later (for example one minute), the calculator presents the number 475 (again).

Anyone have a similar bug?

Thanks 'mons.fractus'.

Who knows, knows 🙂

Effectively solves the problem of the stuck number.

The only problem that remains is that the calculator does not retain the number of the last operation. After a few seconds the value returns to zero.

Thanks for your help. I had it working after disabling SIP, renaming/moving/changing permissions to that of the original .appex file, and re-enabling SIP. But attempting to use the calculator after 30 minutes or more (I did not time it) the calculator was dead. I rebooted and it began to work again followed by going dead again after the initial use after waiting for some period of time. I am on an iMac Pro and 10.13.4. I put my original .appex file back, with it's problem of not retaining the last result on reuse.

I am also experiencing the same problem, but found a temporary solution. When the Notification Center's calculator freezes, or refuses to accept keystrokes from numbers or the keypad, open the Activity Monitor, search for "notification center" and kill [force quit] the process. It will immediately relaunch, and the calculator will once again work... until the next time it freezes. Something very strange is going on with 10.13.4. Hope someone can come up with a more permanent fix.

Surely there must be a better way to solve this problem (I have it too) than to wait around for someone to post a now-dead file that we are supposed to swap out and hope the problem goes away. It's clear Apple doesn't care enough to fix it, as evidenced by the fact MacOS is being updated but our bug reports on this issue are being ignored. For something as simple as a calculator, this kind of problem is crazy and unthinkable.

I agree. Apple needs to be shot in the foot, for failing to provide the simplest and most basic functions of a computer... to calculate a few numbers! Talk about not seeing the trees through the forest! Geeze! Even with the appex file, the fix is NOT in! It worked for a while, but then the keyboard suddenly fails to input numbers, at which point you have to launch the Activity app and kill the whole notification process to reset it.

I just gave up on the Notifications panel and installed a 3rd party calculator. Shame on you Apple! Wake up and fix your OSX! We bought your China-Made Marvel at $3,500+, and you can't even give us a simple working calculator! Idiots!

Thankfully, all contributors to this thread, myself included, received an email notification of your original, unedited post that contained that beautiful link. I downloaded that version of the Calculator and tried it and found it completely solved the problem! Now if Apple would just fix the core problem so we didn't need to download any links, that, my friends, would be the final and best solution!

I spoke too soon. Now that I have restarted my High Sierra 5K iMac, the calculator is totally frozen. I cannot clean the content of the display, and removing and then adding it back via EDIT button in the Notifications side panel doesn't resolve the problem.

For those of you trying the calculator swap, please restart and then test again.

Note that I have SIP disabled but still have this problem.

Ack!
