How do you transfer music on a thumb drive to an iPod?

Hello Apple Friends,

Does anyone know how to transfer music that is on a thumb drive to an iPod?

The iPod I have is an older version that has the white face with the click wheel and the back of the iPod is polished aluminum. On the back of the iPod (the polished aluminum side) the listed Model Number showing here is, A1059 but when you turn on the iPod and click onto Settings and then click onto About, the Model Number listed here is, M9282LL and the Version listed here is 3.1.1 and the Capacity is 330GB. Also for information I'm using a windows computer with iTunes loaded onto it. I hope this information is all that is needed to assist you in helping me with you answer.

I really would appreciate all the help I can get to do this transfer. It would mean a lot to me to be able to do this. In advance I thank you for your help and the time you have invested in this topic.

Sincerely,

AmplifiedSoundTech

Hi AmplifiedSoundTech,

I understand that you'd like to transfer some music you have on a thumb drive to your iPod Classic and that you're using a PC with iTunes installed. I know it's important to have your music collection not only in one place, but also on your devices as well; I'm happy to help. First you'll need to move the song files from the USB drive to iTunes on your PC. To do this, connect the USB drive to your PC and open it once it is recognized. When you've located the music files you'd like to import to iTunes, follow the steps below. If you choose to drag the files you can do so directly from the USB drive, you do not need to move them to the desktop:

Do either of the following:

  • Drag a file or folder from the desktop to the iTunes window.

If you add a folder, all the files it contains are added to your library.

  • In iTunes, choose File > Add to Library or Add Folder to Library, locate a file or folder, and click Open.

By default, adding items to your iTunes library creates a reference to the file’s current location; the original file remains in the current location unless you select “Copy files to the iTunes Media folder when adding to library.” For information about copying files to the iTunes folder instead of creating references to them, see Change where your iTunes files are stored. If the file is an unprotected WMA file and you have Windows Media Player Series 9 or later installed, iTunes makes a copy of the file and adds it to your iTunes library. The original WMA file remains unchanged. You can’t add protected WMA files or protected WMV files to iTunes.

Once the files have been added to iTunes, you can sync or add the desired songs to your iPod using iTunes: iTunes for Windows: Sync iPod, iPhone, or iPad

Warmest Regards.
