When I was running Sierra, I used Riparacapo to repair permissions. However, it doesn't work with High Sierra.
Would anyone know how to repair permissions in High Sierra.

diskutil resetUserPermissions / `id -u`
If you are having problems I suggest you try running Maintenance (from Titanium Software). I have macOS 10.13.2 on my MacBook Pro and it has been running strangely since I installed it over 10.12 a few weeks ago. I just ran Maintenance v. 2.3.7 and all seems to be in order.
@3rdeyesinfotech If you do a Get Info on your Home Folder, or whatever account you are trying to login with, the permissions to the home folder should be YOU (R/W) Staff (Read only) and Everyone (Read only). You seeing this?
Apple used to provided permission repair in older Mac OS like Yosemite, found in the Disk utility. Apple knows what the persmision for there own files are and it would correct the permissions when run from disk utility.
For some reason apple removed this feature. I believe it started in el capatain.
I found a workaround. Here it is.

My knowledge of things Mac doesn't go that far. But it's my experience that when these things happened before (even before repair permissions was taken away), repairing permissions always did the trick. Riparacapo worked well under Sierra, but they haven't updated it. And the changing of the color of some of the folders (which I use to color-code things) really messed some of things here!
Yes, for some reason it locks up on me after I try to sign on to icloud. It's frustrating because this stupid box keeps coming up "macOS needs to repair your Library to run applications" but I can not do any of the past versions fixes or the one above! HELP! 😟
SWEET! We were having a problem with our High Sierra upgrades from Yosemite to HS. We couldn't see thumbnails on any of the files on the desktop. No matter who logged in. Ran this little command below and BAM, everything showed up. Thank man!

Yes. Thumbnails of some items on the desktop do not show and colors of folders sometimes change. I have force-quit Finder but to no avail.

What kind of permissions you want to repair? Also I would recommend you to avoid such tools as often they do more damage than good.
I have contacted the Riparacapo developer and he told me he doesn't plan to upgrade the app.
So I am left clueless as to how to repair permissions.
I am considering downgrading to Sierra. Pity!
