New mystery apps in iPhone cellular data

Problem is:
1. Battery drain caused by this service.

2. A significant cellular data usage by this service in my case.

3. The need to keep track of when the download icon reappears and restart the phone until it became completely discharged.
4. Broken / ugly icon is placed in the wrong place.

It's hard to imagine what specifically can download this service. Maybe this is the only thing -

"iOS 10.3 will let apps change their Home screen icon at any time, no update required"

I was not addressing the issue of whether or not Springboard was using battery (before it was just included, I believe in "System Services"). I was addressing the issue of what it is: part of the system software, not something planted by the government to spy on you.

Sadly, you will not convince the tinfoil hat crowd. Although I'm pretty sure these are just trolls, and probably the same person with multiple IDs.

Springboard is an operating system that you should not see. Only if uounjailbreak your phone then you should be able to see the actually springboard application. I have put 5 calls into Apple and had a supervisor not know what it is. Now I haven’t heard a thing back from anywhere me in two days and I have called extension numbers all over that **** place. SB is right it’s a government servalliance to look like part of the operating system, but they screwed up. And now people are finding it on their phones.

Ignore it. It's part of the Apple System. Don't turn off Cellular access. No one here (including me) knows what the impact of that will be.

So I also noticed the same thing and had reason to have caution about my phone having been tampered with by someone close to me. While it is true that “#images” and “springboard” are naturally occurring features on an iPhone, the items that showed up on my phone after the most recent update use that name, but noted in a different way than the developers use, with capital letters - “SpringBoard” and “HashtagImages” It seems a clever disguise if that’s what someone was going for. If you do a search on those terms, combined with the term spyware, you may - like I did- that it links to a certain questionable website. I can’t verify it but I did find cause for concern.

If you are at all concerned, restore iOS using iTunes and DFU mode. This will remove any tampering that was done to your phone.

However, SpringBoard is the actual name of the daemon that is part of the operating system.

If you monitor your cellular data and notice an app called Springboard show up, then you have to redownload the last firmware update by putting your phone in DFU mode. (Plug in to iTunes > Power off > Power button 3 seconds + Power & Down Volume Ten Seconds + Down Volume 5 seconds — phone stays black) then unplug phone, restart itunes and follow prompts that will let you reinstall the firmware in Recovery Mode and then you can put back all your text messages and what not or start over as new device. Choose start as new device and in the future dont download firmware updates over wifi. Use itunes. Lesson learned. Oh and big brother isn’t watching. Sorry, government employees have better things to do with their time; and you’re not that interesting.

Total nonsense. Springboard is the component of iOS that displays the home screen, and that launches apps when you tap on them. In Unix parlenance it is the operating system Shell. It belongs on your device. Without it the phone won’t work at all. This has already been explained in this thread, which you apparently didn’t bother to read.

Okay, if springboard shows up as an app im your cellular data list, that means the that you did an update over wifi and it disnt complete or was corrupted. The solution is to dfu the device and then start as new aftee that. Springboard wont show up again as long as you dont download firmware updates over wifi, which doesnt mean your guaranteed to have an incomplete firmware update, but it increases the risk. I had this problem, followed the instructions i provided, and now the problem is gone. So the proof you are looking for is in the pudding. If springboard shows up in your cellular list, follow the instructions i provided. It will go away and not come back as long as future updates are done using itunes.

There’s nothing to argue about. Im offering the solution to the issue being described. Follow the instructions and problem is solved. Have a nice day.
