Macbook Pro 2015 Keyboard and Trackpad not working unless battery 100%

Macbook Pro 13" Retina 2015

Not sure how I've done it but something has changed so that my keyboard and trackpad won't work unless the battery is at 100% (ie constantly on the charger). If I unplug from the charger and charge falls below 100% and I close up the laptop, the keyboard and trackpad stop working - though an external USB mouse and USB keyboard will still work... so a software rather than a hardware fault I'm guessing?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch,Early 2015), macOS Sierra (10.12.6)

It seems to be a software issue with the login window when the Macbook wakes from sleep

I have disabled the requirement to enter the login password after waking from sleep and it seems to be behaving itself. Fingers crossed.

For me it was completely a hardware issue. The ribbon cable in my macbook was worn out.

U need to buy a tool kit to open the mac and a new ribbon cable on amazon to replace the worn one. Works perfectly fine now

I find that hard to believe since I have been in one in Auckland about 15 years ago. There are resellers. Maybe you need to look some more. You can't fix broken part without getting a replacement part.

I'm well aware there are resellers, there just isn't an Apple Store with a Genius Bar in New Zealand.

Unfortunately the resellers are all general electronics retailers so the staff aren't Apple experts.

And as the problem seems to be a settings/software problem rather than a hardware one (because now that the Macbook is back at 100% charge, the trackpad and keyboard are working again), it seems more sensible to try and fix it using online advice.

There are Apple certified techs in EnZed. I met several in Auckland at the Technical Universiy and at the U. of Auckland. Other users like yourself have posted about purchased from stores selling Apple products from authorized resellers. If you use the link I posted you can then locate the page for NZ where you can search for local help. Lots of Apple users in EnZed who must be getting support from somewhere locally.

Hey I have the same exact problem and the mac model.

I have no idea why this is happening, here are my findings so far:

- its not the latest xcode update

- its not the latest OS update

- its PROBABLY not a hardware problem

- its not filevault either.

I've tested and tried:

- resetting the vram/pram

- soft-reset of the mac

- tried shut-down and resets, still the same problem persists.

I really need an answer asap...

Unfortunately this would be a very expensive option for me as there is no Apple Store in New Zealand. Nearest one is Sydney, Australia...
