Can dock be hidden IOs 11

I've been looking and can't find where I can get rid of the dock at the bottom of the Ipad in IOs 11? I figured out how to get rid of apps, but not the whole thing. It might be nice, but it's not very hard for me to go back to the screen and go to another app...so I don't see the value in having it up. Or if you can't get rid of it, can you at least make it transparent?

Its not a copy, its just a shortcut to recently used Apps and there's no real reason to want to get rid of them. They'll change on their own as you use other apps.

You can go to Settings->General->Multi-Tasking & Dock->Show Suggested and Recent Apps and turn it off if you want to though.

Beyond that, the dock has always been there, and has never been completely transparent.

It's more opaque if you have Settings->General->Accessibility->Increase Contrast->Reduce Transparency turned on, otherwise its slightly translucent. But in all versions its been there.

The only difference is now its not docked to the bottom of the screen, and gets rounded corners.

Nope. Since it now serves to access apps for multitasking and split view docking it is not an option.

It may be opaque and grey if you have Reduce Transparency turned on in Settings->General->Accessibility->Increase Contrast->Reduce Transparency, otherwise it should be somewhat transparent and as such take on the colors your background image has in that area.

How is the new Dock any different from the ugly, gray bar that was permanently locked to the bottom of the screen in all of the previous versions of iOS?

Maybe you need all of this to help you properly learn to use and navigate iOS 11.

Ya dunt!

And I like the new Dock just dandy, also.

And I suspect millions of other iPad/iOS 11 users like the new Dock, too!

I thought the new iOS 11.3 update fixed the issue with the Dock climbing up the screen on iPads

Scroll from a little higher up on the screen. The dock is set to appear when you start swiping almost at the very bottom edge of the screen. If you start a bit higher it will not show up.

Outside of that, it does have a purpose. You may not have any use for the Multitasking features that it provides, but other users do. It's not just a random useless item, it has a reason for working the way it does. Turning it off in Apps renders the Multitasking and Split View options unusable.

You can submit a suggestion to Apple as mentioned many times in this thread already using the Feedback page. https://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html

Telling us, and complaining to us, is not going to do much to change the way it works.

If I could take a before and after photo you'd see no grey rectangle in the before shot and now it's there and when I use an app it's logo appears in the box, so I have to try and remove or delete the new copy. I was happy with the previous version which took me forever to teach my mother to use, now I have to re-learn and try to teach her again, not happening. Anyone need an IPad 2?

I believe the OP is referring to the dock showing up in apps, as opposed to on the home screen. I am also finding that an errant swipe brings the dock up, or minimises the screen I am trying to view, which I find more aggravating as time passes.

So, for clarification, is there a way to prevent the dock from showing up while in an app? I have no issue with it being on the home screen, and find it useful there, but find it to be very annoying when it pops up while in an app.

Cheers,
