Can Macbook pro chargers from Europe and North America be used interchangeably?

I have a mid-2012 Macbook pro that I bought in Canada. The charging cable is fraying to the point where I need to replace it, but I now live in Europe (I've been using an adapter for the outlets to charge the computer).

I'm wondering if I can just buy a European charger and use it with the computer from Canada? I know there's a built in transformer in the power 'block' in the charging cable, but I'm wondering whether there is a difference in the electrical input to the computer between Macs/chargers purchased in North America vs. Europe.
