Using app switcher on iPad Pro Smart Keyboard in iOs 11.

Since my upgrade to iOs 11, the App Switcher (cmd, tab) on my Smart Keyboard doesn't clear it's previous apps even when I close all the apps with the double click on the home button screen (where I have to close them one at a time). This used to work fine on iOs10.10.3 or whatever that it came with. If I only had one app open than there would only be the one app and the icon for the home screen in the app switcher, if I had two open there would be two and the home icon, etc. Now even when I have only one app open there is an icon fest of as many app icons as the screen will display! I've been talking to tech support on and off over the past two weeks and the gentleman that I spoke with today told me that this is a feature, not a bug. Forgive me for saying so but I'm not seeing how this is beneficial. When I use the app switcher on any of my Mac computers it only show the apps that are open, not the entire history of my days or weeks activity, this way you can conveniently switch between the apps that you have open...hence the name "app switcher", not chooser. I can easily go to the home page and open an app there if that's what I want to do. Also in closing, wouldn't it be a good idea if when using the app switcher you could quit apps by hitting the "Q" key as they are highlighted while going through the list as you can on your Mac?
