How to keep important messages on top in mail

Apparently Mail does not have an pushpin option to keep important messages pinned at the top. Why is this? If you use Mail intensely for work and need to answer a lot of mails every day it really would be helpful to have this function. Flagging your messages does not keep them on top. So how can you make sure you won't miss out on messages that have sunk 10, 20+ places down. Do I need to look for a different app? If so, what would be a good alternative? I really like Mail and have never really used another program, but as my work becomes busier so do the emails coming in. It happens almost every week now that I forgot to reply to a customer... This can become a costly issue. Any suggestions?

Thanks, but that doesn't resolve my issue. I need to be able to pin incoming messages to stick to the top. Of course the most recent stay at the top, but I want to be able to choose the messages that stay at the very top. Some email clients have a pushpin option, just like flagging them, but then being able to keep them at the top until you remove the pushpin. It's a really handy tool, and I don't understand why Apple hasn't picked up on this....

Open mail preferences > viewing check the box of show recent messages at the top .

Using Mac OS High Sierra , if you compose a new mail window ( command + N ) , take cursor on edit > click on append selected messages , the mail that is selected in the inbox will be automatically added in the main subject window .
