iphone 8 wireless charge at 100% screen goes on and off continuously

I charge my iphone 8 on 2 different samsung wireless chargers which i used for my samsung s8 so are qi certified.

The iphone 8 charges fine untill it gets to 100% charge then after a few minutes the screen keeps goind on and off all the time every few minutes.

this happens on both my samsung chargers, which are the latest fast charge models, and with various cables and power connectors.

As i said before the phone is charged to 100% without any problems.. the issure is when it gets to 100% then if i dont remove it from the charger then the screen keeps going on and off.

Hey Ifaitas!

I see you're curious about Qi charging with your iPhone 8. Let me see if I can clear some things up for you.

When it comes to wireless charging, compatibility with the iPhone is going to rely on the type of charger you're using. While there's no guarantee that using the charger of your choosing will have issues, there's also no guarantee that it'll work without issue. Check on the list of compatibility here:

What you need

iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus feature integrated wireless charging that allows for an easy and intuitive charging experience. With an all-new design, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have a glass back that works with Qi chargers that are available as accessories and in cars, cafes, hotels, airports, and furniture. Qi is an open, universal charging standard created by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC).

There are many Qi chargers available in the market, including two new wireless charging mats from Mophie and Belkin, which represent the best implementation of the Qi standard. These are available at Apple.com and Apple retail stores.

View a list of Qi-certified chargers.

Other Qi-certified chargers might vary in functionality and performance. If you have questions, contact the manufacturer.

Hopefully this helps to clear things up, and gives you an idea what to look for in the future. That article has some other great information about wireless charging, so be sure to check out more than just the excerpted section.

Hi,

I have the same issue. Charging works fine. Samsung charger is fully compatible accorcing to the Qi website (even matches the version number). But after the phone has been fully charged, the just jumps from charging to not charging and back. How's the behaviour with the other charging mats?

I've obviously read the article from Apple, but it doesn't help with the issue.

When the device reaches 100% battery charge, it will go into a maintenance charge mode and will enable charging periodically which may cause the device to do maybe what you're seeing (when charging mode is enabled, the screen lights up). Maybe this is what you're seeing?

Pay attention to the device and the battery indicator on the screen and when the screen comes on, see if the battery shows that it's charging (lightning bolt)

The re-charging happens every 20 seconds. It includes the screen lighting up and vibrating/making a sound for the start of charging. This makes it impossible to use it at night.

I assume it’s due to some miscommunication with between the charger and the phone. That’s supposed to be what standards are for (in this case Qi)....

I doubt there's miscommunication. If left plugged in to the charger and the device's battery drops enough (even slightly) to reach a level where it believes it needs to be charged, the charger will again begin charging the device, causing the screen to light, then darken.

That's what I believe is happening...maybe with that particular charger only. Since you don't have others to try, I'll step aside and let others chime in with their experience with other wireless chargers.

Ifaitas,

I read this in another forum but can't remember the specific web site. I had this exact problem with my iPhone X and Samsung Convertible Fast Charger. I swapped to using an apple branded charger with a USB connector (12w) from a generic USB charger I was using to charge my android devices. This appeared to fix my problem of having the screen go on and off continuously following 100% charge. Try it it may work for you as it did for me.

I had the same problem, and came to this conclusion. I dont Know how wireless charging works, but when I had it centered on the Samsung chargers I have no problems at all. Now if it’s off a little bit on one side or to high or low, it will duplicate this loss of power phenomenom. The reason I say loss of power is because I remember my phone doing this when I hooked it up to a powerblock with two usb ports on it, the other my iPad. i really think it’s not getting the sufficient amount of charging power. Eventually it will say (not charging). Just try it. If it doesn’t work, it’s on the wall of unhelpful replies. 😂
