macOS 10.13 could not be installed on your computer , unable to unmount volume for repair

Hi ,

I have problems installing macOS 10.13

If I install it on Sierra
the install bar doesn't move until the end and after 1 second
it's ask me to restart my Mac
and then I got error

macOS could not be installed on your computer , unable to unmount volume for repair

then I tried to do Clean Install

I did it four times in two days !!

and every times I got Black Screen after finished install !!

I did try to force unmount and then repair volume via Terminal
but nothing change , same issue !

BTW First Aid didn't give me any error !

Anyone have any solution ?

The kernel process "IS" the operating system. Either it is running, or your Mac is powered off.

BUT, 3rd party Kernel Extensions are loaded into the kernel and run as part of the kernel. So if you have installed 3rd party software, it could very well have installed a kernel extension and be the cause of your problems.

You might want to run EtreCheck and paste the output as a reply to this thread.

Hi,

I spent an entire day trying to work around this issue, checked back on the forums today to see if anyone had solved it and found this from a user on another one

"Contacted AppleCare. These two commands fixed the problem: sudo mv /.quota.ops.user /.quota.ops.user.org and mv /.quota.user /.quota.user.orig"

Source High Sierra install fails - "unable to unmount volume for repair"

Ran those two commands before running the installer, and it seems to be installing now...

I would do the clone backup, boot from the clone, wipe the internal drive. Do a clean install of High Sierra. I would not use migration considering all the extra stuff on your Mac. Bring over only your files after install High Sierra. Set iCloud to Sync everything. There are a few files in your User's Library that could be brought over but I would go as clean as possible.

An approach. Maybe not the best, but if you cannot get Apple store help, maybe this will work.

First, make sure you have a good backup. Even better have 2, using 2 different backup utilities, going to 2 different backup devices, and test to make sure they are good (Time Machine, Carbon Copy Cloner, SuperDuper as good backup utilities).

See about installing the new operating system on an external disk

Use Migration Assistant to copy your files and 3rd party apps over to the external disk (should be asked if you want to do this during the install, and that would be the best time to perform this transfer).

Or maybe just use a Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper copy be the base for the new operating system install.

Test the external disk to see if it does all you need it to do.

If you are happy with the external install, boot from the external disk

Erase/Reformat the internal disk

Use Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to transfer the external with the new operating system and ALL your files back to the internal disk.

A lot of work, and depending on the amount of data that needs to be moved, it take take awhile waiting for multiple redundant backups, installing the OS, migrating your data, copying your external disk back to the boot disk, but at this point in time, it is all I can come up with that might get you moving forward.

Of course if Apple can figure out what is happening, all the better.

I just try to enter to Statrtup disk
and then I try to First Aid I got same error

then I try via Terminal
and I got this error

failed to unmount: dissented by PID=0 (kernel)

the reason of my problem
is because this processed always working !

literally I deleted every app an tools on Kernel Extensions
and they ware :
- Parallels Desktop
- NoSleep
- Leap Motion app and driver
- Boom 2
- Paragon NTFS for Mac
- Android Studio and HAXM
- Boxcryotor
- Quanta Driver

and then make the check again

and Now there isn't any Kernel Extensions

but the problems still there

I did Restart my Mac

after that I try to install MacOS 10.13

but I got same error
