how do you copy and paste a number in iOS 11 from notes to safari

When I copy a number string iOS 11.0.1 thinks it’s a telephone number and won’t copy it. Any ideas?

The problem is that it pasts “tel:” before the number and some fields get upset and go to error. With iOS 10 it just coppied the number. That’s hat I need for some long number entries. Thanks for the help.

Hi there, LouK44!

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities. I see that you have a number string you'd like to copy, but every time you try, iOS 11.01 treats the number as if it's a phone number and is not giving you a copy option. I'm happy to help!

When iOS sees a set of numbers of a certain length, it will interpret that as a phone number first. Tapping the number with bring up an option to call the number only. If you'd like to copy that number string, tap and hold your finger on the number. When doing so, a menu should appear with several options ranging from "Cal [Number]" down to "Copy Phone Number". Select the "Copy Phone Number" option and you'll be able to paste that number string elsewhere as usual.

I hope you have a lovely day!

I have the same issue. Every time I want to copy a number string in a SMS message field, the only option I get is the “copy phone number” that that means that the SENDER’S phone number is copied instead of the text string I’m trying to capture. This is a big hassle, as these often are f.i. long tracking numbers or other references that I need to copy. I wish they would fix this soon...

I fully support JarBro opinion.

With iOS 11 a badly design function has been introduced and shall be fixed asap.

Please revert the behaviour of copying simple and plain numbers without assuming they are all phone numbers, becouse they are not necessarily so.

Untill iOS 10 it was well possible to just copy a simple number, as it is, without adding any sort of prefixes, such as “tel:”.

Simple numbers may be PINs, codes or just a plain number sequence of this sort.

Apple, please don’t overdo with the user interface for the own sake of change, but listen to what your customers want and need.

Looking forward to hearing that this very annoying situations is fixed and back on track.

Thank you

Kind regards

Hope you have seen what others have posted. A big issue is that when you copy the number and paste it, it adds tel: at the front.
I have to copy/paste numbers into a field that has a limited number of digits allowed, and when the "tel" is added it doesn't copy over the full number, impeding my work. So frustrating! I hope Apple releases a fix ASAP!

I’m aware I can use option “copy phone number”, but why can’t I copy just the number? It is really annoing - don’t remember a single time when option “copy phone number” was useful in any way, at the same time I need to remove the useless “tel.” prefix many times per day when coping regular numbers.

Please don’t make life of iOS users harder for no reason.

Hi

It certainly is a bad idea that Apple can’t see a number string as anything other than a telephone number - fix it Apple! You’ve updated IOS11 5 times? Maybe more! And can’t do this???

Here is a work around - a bit convoluted but...

Hold down the number and eventually you’ll get a list of options including ‘create new contact’.

Select ‘create new contact’.

Give the contact a name (just 1 character will do).

Then copy the number from the + phone field and paste it where you want.

It will definitely paste into Notes.

Only prob is, it puts a space in the number - you can edit it though in notes.

Not ideal by any means - sort it out Apple!

Why is apple so slow to fix this dumb problem? We do not need the "tel:" part when we copy a phone number from a web page. When we paste to a text message the number does not work Because "tel:000-000-0000" can not be sent. Try it Apple...How foolish is Apple.

Doesnt any test over at Apple?

Thanks for taking away the processor speed. I've filed my case with the FTC.
