Which os would be best for my macbook air Late 2010 model?

Hi All,

My MacBook Air is from late 2010 the exact model is a "Core 2 Duo" 1.86 13" (Late '10) Specs.

This page gives the full technical specs https://everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook-air/specs/macbook-air-core-2-duo-1.86 -13-late-2010-specs.html

Since I have it I have never upgraded the os yet so it's still on Version OS X 10.6.8 and I believe snow leopard. However since the last few months it seems to be slowing down quiet regularly and unfortunately does not allow the transfer of pictures from iphones directly which is a pain.

I saw the new high Sierra OS coming out and thought I should upgrade mine however I think that the newest version might be too big and will slow it down. If it still possible I don't mind upgrading by an older version like Yosemite or El Capitan.

So which one would you advise me to upgrade with and where could i find a downlable version of these older versions?

Many Thanks in advance for your help

I don't know what you've read but if you are using 10.6.8 and have an eligible model, then you can only upgrade to the last version of OS X that is supported on your model. This is how Apple is now running system upgrading. The only way to get earlier versions is if you have purchased or downloaded them before on the Mac App Store in which case they are available in your MAS's Purchases list. If you have 4GBs of RAM in your model that is the max for your MBA, the bare minimum for running a functional version of OS X. If you have only 2GBs then you can still install versions of OS X after Snow Leopard but they will not run very well. I would not recommend upgrading OS X. I would suggest buying a new computer instead.
