lock screen rotates now?

why does my lock screen rotate now, since the last update? There used to be a way to lock the screen, but it was so long ago I can't remember where it is, or it is gone with the update (these things do happen)

Hi ChuckDeYappa,

If you swipe up from the lower part of the display, the Control Center should come up.

The Orientation Lock is the the one which has a lock and an arrow around it. If you select that, it will lock your orientation.

I hope this helps.

The lock screen being in horizontal, or landscape mode for the iPhone 5s is not normal. If you lock the device while it horizontal mode, it may start that way but should move immediately. If not, the try turning the phone off and back on again while in portrait mode. That should correct it. Apple does not need to update iOS 11 to change the notifications, they should not be working that way, unless you are using the device in landscape. The lock screen on the 5s should not rotate.

There is no screenshot. However, if your phone's lock screen is in landscape orientation, then something is wrong. You need to troubleshoot that issue. There is no update that is going to fix the issue, because it is something wrong with your particular device. User troubleshooting steps include restart, reset, restore from backup, restore to factory; testing after each step.

That is helpful, but, I always had the lock screen in portrait, and I really need it to work the way it used to. Can I undo the update?

You can still have the lock screen in portrait. Just don't turn the phone. Are you saying that you cannot get the screen back to portrait, that would be different than what you originally reported.

No, you cannot undo the update, Apple does not support downgrading of iOS.

I have the same problem. ios11 lock screen defaults to horizontal on my 5s, and does not rotate, which is ridiculous since the notifications are now small, narrow, and hard to read leaving a huge blank area of the screen for the clock. Apple needs to update ios11 to kill horizontal notification orientation or at least give an option to keep portrait lock screen notifications so they can be read!

Hi, here’s a screen shot. The phone was not locked after previous use, and It does not automatically orient to portrait regardless of phone position. It’s extra inconvenient with more than 2 notifications (which I often have). If I open the screen, notifications appear portrait, but not being portrait when I pull my phone out defeats their “at a glance” usefulness: if the notification isn’t urgent I wouldn’t need to bother unlocking the phone. If they can fix that without an update, that would be sweet, but I don’t see a way of getting the phone to default to portrait for lock screen notifications other than going back to old system.
