iPhone 6 very slow with IOS 11 update

After receiving IOS 11.01.1 on my MGCT2LL/A1522 (iPhone 6), my phone is super slow. Apps hang, then close (like the Starbucks app), my purchased music would just stop in the middle of a song, then I had to close the app and re-open.

In general, everything is very slow to respond, and I have rebooted twice.

Any suggestions

Many apps unresponsive. Phone also running extremely warm and battery draining very quickly. Turning off background app refresh makes no difference whatsoever. Hard reset has no effect. I have 78GB free.

I think that there are at least 2 different issues here. There are phones with worn batteries and there are phones with relatively good batteries (like mine, at 91% factory level as reported by Coconut Battery). In my case, my iPhone 6 was very “laggy”. Apps took a long time to launch, “Hey Siri” was very slow to respond, keyboard was ”laggy” and home button occasionally unresponsive. All of these problems were resolved by resetting to factory state.

Even though CPU Dasher reports CPU running at 600 MHz when battery is low, those problems have not resurfaced.

Yes, the phone seems a little less snappy (subjectively) then before. It is not bad.

I really think that people should give the factory reset a try if their batteries are in good shape. I think that Apple considers a battery needs replacing if capacity falls below 80% of new.

I wiped and re-installed the ios through recovwry mode. THE BATTERY DOESNT MATTER. IT IS A FEATURE

Why do you think the battery doesn't matter? Did wiping and reinstalling iOS help?

Lots of people have said that when they replaced their battery the problem went away. Lots of people who have seen the problem have said that their battery wear level was high.

If your iPhone is still under warranty, take it into Apple and get the battery replaced. They should do it for free.

Before the update my phone worked perfectly.

Yes , when I took the update , my iphone slowed down to a crawl. It is officially Garbage now.

The apps run and run and run and drain the battery so fast now. This was really a dumb move..

And I got the battery replacement and the status is the same. really. I think some one owes me another phone. I am very unhappy right now.

Agreed - I would have no problem with the throttling if you had the option to go back to an earlier iOS that didnt do it. Apple should keep iOS versions up for much longer allowing people to go back. When you sell hardware and design software to make the old hardware slower it is a conflict of interest. One solution would be allow people to roll back iOS to an earlier non-throttled version.

Now why would Apple do that? Seriously. They are in the business of selling product, getting you addicted, adding a few bells & whistles to justify your buying new and additional hardware while slowing down your existing hardware to make it a little less effective. All the while, they raise prices slightly across the board- it is a brilliant business strategy...

I had this issue and it is very disappointing. I am monitoring Apple's actions. They are still top tier in many ways but I want to upgrade my devices on my terms, as their prices are high, especially for Macs. I am a iphone, iwatch, ipad user but recently switched to PC from my Mac which was a good decision (I hate to say it). Are there compelling reasons to move to the Google ecosystem (Android)?

Just read through this whole thread, my wifes iPhone 6 been acting pretty slow for her, checked battery and ordered a new one, will report back with the outcome. Also the couple of battery check apps have been really inconsistent or my battery has been really inconsistent, it ranges from 93% to 77%, but the phone has over 585 cycles, so ill try a new battery and see what happens, kit replace battery, $15 bucks, OEM battery $19 bucks. Apple care is way past so I won't have to worry about warranty,

I have an iPhone 6 and having lived in the Apple ecosystem for years, am ready to bolt. My iPhone 6 battery became very bad about 3 months before the end of my AppleCare warranty. AppleCare ran a diagnostic on the phone about 1 month before the expiration of my AppleCare contract during a phone support call. They told me the battery was good! The warranty ended and my phone could only stay powered on for about an hour. I made an appointment at the Genius Bar at my local Apple Store. They tested the battery (bad) and reviewed my case during the AppleCare support call. The Genius Bar associate told me that there was documentation that my iPhone battery was bad and that I WASN'T told the truth. With a brand new battery, phone performance was excellent UNTIL the newest iOS update! Stinks! Apple ruined my phone on purpose to get me to buy a new phone. I'm not.

The ONLY way this gets fixed is for Apple to take responsibility for the upgrade error. They have been leading me down the primrose path for 2 months now, costing me hours of my time to fix THEIR problem. Now they want me to go to the Apple store in the middle of the Christmas rush for ANOTHER diagnostic test. No - there is nothing about my phone that they don’t know by now. I am demanding action up the chain of command at Apple. Apple knows exactly what is happening, their approach at this point is attrition- to see how many upset customers actually push back.
