I may have figured it out... (Just not sure change fixed it : ) First I noticed that the ARD Client was only 2.x so I updated it to 3.1. Next After talking to ATT/SBC people (one of which was very nice and helpful) I went to "homeportal" (typed just like that without the parenthesis). This is basically the control/setup page for your AT&T router (if you have the 2Wire model we did) First I went there and tried to open some ports, (eventually I just totally shut off the router's firewall, and used the one on our MacBookPro) There was a good bit of guessing here, but I messed with the settings to try to get a static ip. They actually give you a good bit of control and as bunch of ip addresses you can use... Ironically, these IP addresses rarely were the one that appeared across the net, but using whatismyip.com eventually worked and all is well...
