Yosemite 10.10.5 - Image Capture import disappeared photos to nonexistent iPhotos. Where are they now?

Hello,

An import of photos was performed using Image Capture in Yosemite 10.10.5

Somehow the import location had been changed to iPhotos, which doesnt exist on the operating system , but still appears as an import location with a crossed out symbol over it.

After appearing to successfully import these photos to this location, the photos can no longer be found.

Can someone explain if and where these photos were imported to if iPhotos doesnt exist on the machine?

a search of the latest All Files turns up none of the jpegs.

Did they actually import?

the photos are currently lost and deleted from the iphone, so any idea on this is appreciated.

thanks

MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2014), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5), iPhotos still appearing

Hi there, AApb!

Thanks for stopping by the Apple Support Communities. From your post, I see that you are trying to locate pictures imported from your iPhone. When the import occurred, the destination seemed to be iPhoto. But you're not seeing the iPhoto app on your Mac, and are also unable to find the pictures in Finder. I'd be happy to help!

When you import pictures using iPhoto or Photos, the pictures themselves do not appear as individual files on the computer. To access the pictures, you need to use iPhoto or Photos. If you are having trouble locating iPhoto, I have a few suggestions for you to try.

First, if you haven't already, I would first suggest using Spotlight Search to check the whole computer for the iPhoto app, just to be sure: Mac Basics: Spotlight helps you find what you're looking for - Apple Support .

Should Spotlight Search not turn up results for iPhoto, I would then recommend checking the Purchased section of the App Store to see if iPhoto is available for download: Mac App Store: Install and reinstall apps purchased from App Store . If you find iPhoto there, download it. Then, open the app and select your iPhoto library if prompted. Check for the pictures there.

Alternatively, you can also utilize the Photos app. Included in the Yosemite OS X 10.10.3 update, Photos takes over for iPhoto in the picture management category. You can import your iPhoto library into Photos, and the following article will give you more information on that process: Updating from iPhoto to Photos for macOS - Apple Support . Once your iPhoto library is imported, check for your pictures.

If you get access to iPhoto, or open Photos, and are still unable to find your pictures, I would suggest checking for other libraries:
