Why does Canadas iTunes suck so much??

Does anyone know why the Canadian iTunes store doesn't have movies, tv shows or anything that great? It has music and not even all the music that the U.S. store has, good luck finding soundstracks on the Canadian store. This is really starting to frustrate me seeing how many things have been added on the U.S. store to make your iPod more versatile and fun and that we get nothing in Canada!

The lack of Movies and TV shows is not unique to Canada by any means. The reason that stores for different countries have different content is due to restrictions placed on Apple by the record companies, film companies, TV companies and other copyright holders. These are quite often completely different from country to country and therefore all require their own individual contract negotiations. The varying content is not imposed by Apple, who would have a much easier job if they only had to maintain one multi-national store and deal with one set of licensees. However I believe the plan that was announced when the Movies were introduced is to roll them out to other stores in sometime this year. However whether or even if the Canadian and UK stores etc. get them in 2007 will depend on the negotiations with the film distributors for each region.

I wonder, given the restrictions on everything other than the most basic music on the Canadian iTunes store, if the new Apple TV and iPhone will be only available to the US market? It seems rather pointless to shell out $400 for a device that can't do most of what it promises simply because of geographic restrictions.

I'm frankly annoyed about being allowed to see what's available, but not able to purchase any of it. I can buy dvds from the US, I can listen to US radio, I watch US tv, but because I happen to live in Canada I can't legally purchase most of these things.

Hopefully there is a way around this eventually. I'd like the freedom to download missed tv shows and movies instead of having to wait for seasons of DVD to show up or downloading illegally.

Initially yes, they will indeed only be available in the US. Apple made mention of the iPhone coming to Europe and the UK (if I'm remembering correct) later, but no mention was made about Canada that I saw. I don't know about the AppleTV.

It's completely up to the content owners and, as always, Canadian copyright law.
