Telephone Phishing Scam

What Is this?

On Monday, 2 October 2017, I received fifteen (15) telephone calls from APPLE, INC claiming that my iCloud account had been breached with “suspicious activities.” The robot voice, calling from 1-619-682-3477, (a San Diego based area code), directed me to press “1” or call 888-234-4781 to talk to an analyst regarding said activities. These telephone calls spanned four hours from noon to four pm Pacific Standard Time.

I called Apple Care instead and spoke with Jason, who asked me to make this report to you.

If you were to call that number, which is the Fashion Valley Apple Retail Store in San Diego, you'd get the initial recording which also notes that they're aware of this and any security steps you can take up to / including contacting fbi.gov/investigate to report it. If someone else is claiming to be the Apple Retail Store, there's little Apple itself can actually do about it since there is now way to know who it truly is that's spoofing the number.

It's still happening today and with any luck will subside shortly.
