MacOS desktop background sliding panel pictures

I've been trying to set my desktop background as tiled / panelled pictures. What I am looking for works fine in the screensaver mode, but doesn't on the desktop background.

Is there any way to get it to work on the desktop background?

Apparently, according to some past articles, this feature was available on some previous versions of Mac OS, but it seems to have been disabled. The option is visible in the text box, but is greyed out and can't be chosen.

I would be very happy, if some of the screen saver options were available for the desktop background, as well.
