battery: indicator not updating since High Sierra upgrade

The battery charge indicator in the menubar on my MacBook Pro (Mid 2010) is no longer updating since I upgraded to MacOS High Sierra.

The only way to force an update is to toggle the "Show percentage" menu. Even the information if the Macbook is on adapter or on battery, is not updating.

It started with the indicator not displaying in the menu. The upgrade had removed the setting to display the status in the menubar.

Enyone with similar experience? Or, better, a solution.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9)
