With Preview in HS, I can no longer use either the keyboard shortcut or the menu item to activate the highlighter pen for repetitive use: the only option is now the button on the toolbar. Is there a fix for this?

In Preview (High Sierra), you end highlighting by clicking on the black (in-use) Highlight button on the Preview Toolbar.
Were the Preview contextual menu contents removed in Sierra too? Removing these in High Sierra is simply inane.
Well, Apple changed it for whatever reason. You can send them feedback. They don't normally answer but they read all feedback…

Nope. High Sierra. You weren't THAT groggy. I'm installing a Sierra VM to check what it looks like.
Sierra was the same as your El Capitan shot. Apparently the change came with High Sierra.

Agreed. Good God, Apple. Bring the old contextual menu back.
It require more mouse move and clicks now. It really hurts user experience. The Preview app is useless when reading pdf docments.
No wonder they use "High" in their new operating system "High Sierra". The programmers must have been high on pot and therefore forgot about a number of existing features!
Since using macOs Sierra I got the same problem which is really annoying since I no longer print out usually work on
The method you mentioned did not work. If you can post a video about the subject, I think it might be more educational if there is an incorrect step.
Agreed. I cannot efficiently use Preview to add comments to student papers any longer without the right-click option. I will have to find another product to use. Removing this option is idiotic.
