apple.help@post.com message on MacBook Pro

Hi,

I seem to have a problem with my MacBook Pro, which is currently locked and is only showing with a grey screen with the message "write to email: Apple.help@post.com".

It asks for a 6-digit passcode but I have no idea what this could be.

Has anybody got a clue?

Thanks!

Hi,

Do not reply to that email, it is a scam, phishing or possibly asking for a "ransom." Your Apple ID may have been compromised. Read the following and contact Apple as explained in the document: If you think your Apple ID has been compromised - Apple Support

That is a SCAM. the message is not provided by Apple, Inc.

post.com is NOT an Apple email address. it is the email address of the lying thieves who have contacted you.

I suggest you quit your Browser, if possible.

otherwise use Command-Option escape to bring up the force-quit window and force-quit your browser.

otherwise shutdown your Mac.

otherwise, use the power button for ten seconds to emergency power-off your Mac.

when restarting after the desktop is drawn, hold the shift key to stop opening previously-opened Applicatiosn.

when re-launching your Browser, hold the shift key to avoid re-opening previously-opened pages.

This has just happened to me too!! I got a message earlier today on my iPhone saying some one was using my Apple ID over in New York (I live in Brisbane, Australia) - so I blocked the login and then re-set my password - and when I got home - both my macs (an iMac and a Mac Mini) both have a grey screens with an Apple logo and a section to input a 6 digit passcode to unlock the system! It also lists the email Apple.help@post.com which I emailed and got an auto reply saying I need to pay $50 to a bitcoin account to get the passcode! I cannot get past this locked screen - can anyone help?

Exactly the same for me - 6-digit Passcode request and no option to get past this grey screen!

Both my iPad and my MacBook are affected, for some reason I could “save” my iPhone by re-setting my password immediately when the “lost iPhone” message appeared.

I didn’t even bother sending an e-mail to this address; but I haven’t found a way to get round the grey screen either!

Anybody else who had a similar problem and found a solution?

Thanks for the response tjk. Will Apple support be able to get into my MacBook/ iPad however, as both are showing this grey screen without any option to get past it?

I tried shutting both devices down but when I re- start it’s the same thing except for the message “your account is locked. Please try again in xx minutes” - which started with 10 mins and then gradually went up, 1 hour last time I tried.

Anyway, I scheduled a call with Support.

Apple is said to have some special tools at the Genius Bar that can pry open a Find-My-Mac locked computer. But they will only apply them to computers where you can prove ownership. Their favorite documentation is a paper receipt with a serial number.

If you can regain control of your Apple-ID, you may be able to turn off the lock from another device. There is no documentation to this, however.

Hi all...good to know I'm not the only one.

I had the same message on my phone (write to apple.help@post.com) and my iPhone was put in Lost mode. I was able to reset my Apple ID password using another phone and my CC info, but my phone was still in Lost mode. My email (my apple ID) got several messages automatically, saying my iPhone was found, etc. I clicked on one and was able to take my phone out of Lost mode. However, I'm still locked out with the mystery 6-digit passcode. The only solution I found here was to restore the phone (using iTunes) to its factory settings thus getting rid of the passcode. From there you can restore a back-up of your phone (if you have one!). Good reminder to regularly back-up your phone. 😟

Hi

I am having the same problem. We was able to disconnect one of our work computers that locked with a 4 digit pin and it seems to be working fine, but as we had tried with another and it was incorrect it had locked, and received the same text about bitcoins. Will take it into Genius bar and see what they say once resolved. My mum said she saw on the news about some faults with Apple hacks the other day, hence why there was a new update, so update any software until this configures.

Hey,
I had the same problem 2 weeks ago on my macbook pro. After talking to apple hotline 3 times, finally somebody knew what was going on, had to wait a week for an appointment at apple store, where they made sure my apple ID was restored (with a new password, so back in my control) (which I already had done with the guy on the phone) and to unlock the macbook he started the macbook in save mode (where it shows a lock and password field) then he typed something I didn't see and a long number showed up under the password field. With that he said, they have the authorization to unblock the computer.
So I left it there and after 1day I could pick it up and everything was like before 🙂!!

It was free, I still have warranty, I don't know how much it would be otherwise.
(before apple store app. actually had another app.with affiliated store (Gravis in Germany) but they had no clue and wanted to completely reinstall it, so if you can go to apple store!!)

For anybody still having this issue:
- Restore your apple ID with another computer

- make an apple store appointment (hopefully you live close by)
- make sure to bring the invoice and your ID! (If you don't have your ID/you're not on the invoice, they will unlock the device but also delete everything on it!)

For people that don't quite understand what this is (I didn't, I thought it's a virus and my other harddrives could be affected...). Somebody has somehow gotten access to your apple-ID password, logged in (possible on any browser, any computer) and "security" blocked your decive(s). That usually is an option you can choose to take when your device is stolen/lost, for your own safety, you can type a message to the finder (call me if found or whatever...) which the hacker has done in writing his email there. So it's not that bad after all, you won't loose your data if you do setps above! The hacker is not actually accessing anything.

Good luck, I hope that helped a bit!
