iTunes 12.7 for Windows won't play movies

I recently updated to iTunes 12.7 (12.7.0.166) 64-bit on Windows 10. Now when I try to play a movie, I get a black screen and no progress. I've tried multiple movies in my library, all are purchased. I get a black screen or sometimes the iTunes UI freezes up. This happens with both streaming and downloaded movies.

I've already tried the steps to completely uninstall and reinstall iTunes. I've also deauthorized and reauthorized my computer a few times. I've also signed out and then signed back in. Any other ideas?

Just an update on my solution. You have to completely disconnect the HDMI connection for it to work. If i just make my DVI-D the main monitor and try it (displays still extended or duplicated) it still runs into the issue because the HDMI is being used in some way but if I just show my desktop on the DVI-D connection then it works fine.

Like everyone I have also been having this issue. It was working on my laptop fine but streaming or watching downloaded movies on my desktop was just refusing to work (Press play and player pops up black freezing itunes or it doesn't even bring up the player and leaves a box outline in the corner frozen). That said, I seem to have found the source of my problem.

I remembered when I used to get those HDCP errors on iTunes and how it can be caused by HDMI not being HDCP compatible. I know the problem wasn't the same but figured I might as well try playing on my second monitor using a DVI connection and it worked!

I am fairly certain my HDMI is not HDCP compatible so that may be the issue still without the warnings despite TV shows working on my main monitor and despite the movies working on my main monitor just a week ago or so.

Hope this helps!

I finally resolved my issue, but to be honest I'm not sure what the catalyst was. My iTunes has been up to date, so updating iTunes didn't help.

The two things I did:

  1. Update my NVIDIA drivers and GeForce Experience
  2. Installed Quicktime 7
    1. Toggled off D3D support, played a movie and it worked
    2. Toggled it back on, still played successfully

Like I said, I'm not sure which of these was the catalyst and I should've tested them independently. The QT7 idea I got from another thread on here somewhere but it might have been older (can't find it now).

Hopefully this helps those still having the issue.
