El Capitan - iCloud synchronisation

Hi, my Mac operating system is OS X El Capitan, i want to get all my Documents files into iCloud Drive and have them synchronised. That means when i change anything in any file, the same in iCloud Drive changes accordingly so that I can always have backup. How can I do that?

MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Thanks for that updated info. To answer your questions, yes you will need to update to the latest macOS to be able to use this feature, which is also why you do not see Desktop and Documents as an option when you click the Options button in your iCloud settings.

You can use iCloud Drive to sync your documents across your devices as well. Have a look at this article to help you get that set up:
