External hard drive won't mount

Hello everyone.

Suddenly, my external hard drive stopped mounting. I have a Buffalo HD-PCFU3. I can still hear it running, but my Mac won't mount it/it won't show up under "Devices," and I can't access any files. I tried using Disc Utility (it shows up, but is greyed out) to repair it with First Aid, which didn't work. I also used Paragon NTF for Mac 15 to mount, and nothing happened and the light next to the name of the device in the program remained off. When I tried to verify, I got that it "couldn't verify completely." Finally when I try to repair it says the same thing. Any help?

I'm using a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch Late 2012) running macOS Sierra 10.12.16.

Hi,

To find out if the HD still works, try it on a Windows machine.

On the Mac, you can try resetting the NVRAM: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204063 and reset the SMC: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295.
