Seems that when I just brows folders on my iCloud Drive in files it just starts to auto download the files in that location. I need to turn that off. I have a couple hundred gigs of stuff backed up and I really don’t want it all on my phone. Thanks

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem or a suggestion for change. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem/suggested change solved sooner.
I just started using the Files app and do not have hundreds of gigs in my cloud storages, but for me the files only get downloaded when they are tapped on.
Otherwise the file thumbnail shows the cloud icon.
I did review that before posting but doesn’t address why files are automatically downloaded to your phone when looking at directories in the app.
This has to be a bug. I just opened the app and scrolled down and let the screen stop and random files stared downloading instead of everything on the screen. Hope this gets fixed soon.
