Sharing Files with iPad 3 and iOS 9.3.5

I updated my iTunes to version 12.7, and now I am unable to sync files in iTunes. I am using UnReal book to manage music on my iPad and regularly update my music PDFs with new tunes, and CSV index files to go along with. Suddenly it seems I can't do this anymore. When my iPad is connected to the computer, iTunes does not offer file sharing as an option. I am assuming it is because I am not running "the latest version of iOS" that Apple's support doc says I need.

Does anyone know a workaround for this? My iPad cannot be upgraded any further.

FYI and a little late, but

If you only have older iPads or other iDevices with either iOS 9.3.5 or iOS 10.3.3, you did not have to update your iTunes version to 12.7.

You could have stayed wity iTunes 12.6.2.

I am still running iTunes 12.6.2 and will keep doing so for quite some time.

All my iDevices are still running iOS 9 or 10 (I am in NOoooo real hurry, either to upgrade to the serious bug laden iOS 11)
