The Battery Cycle count for my MacBook Pro is 1436. Looking at the Apple site it says that it is should be 1000. Does this mean it is time to replace my battery?

There is no magic number for the battery to last. Based on posts here, most batteries don't last to 1000 cycles; a rare few last beyond that. Based on that, I would be prepared to replace the battery when needed, but there's no need to if you're getting satisfactory run time. If you're not, or if Condition in System Information says Service or Replace, then it's time to replace it.

1000 cycles is the limit at which point the battery begins to rapidly lose charge. You don't have to replace it if you don't want to right now but the longer you don't, the battery will hold less and less charge.

The cycle count goes up not down.
