Yes, but it's possible the OP has more than one device with the same Apple ID tied to multiple devices. In this case, Find my iPhone will work on any of the tied devices.

Well since you cannot remote switch FMiP ON/OFF, locating your other device will not trigger a notification.
Unless, you use some allowed FMiP actions: example Erase.
What if you just did it thru the app not thru setting
The FMiP app is for locating other iPhone.
Isn't it logical, if you don't have your iPhone, you don't have FMiP app.
Use the app to help for example locate your friend's Apple device(s).
Does find my iPhone app send notifications when you log in? I know if you do it on a computer it does.
