using wireless charging with a popsocket

I recently got an iPhone 8 plus (yay!) and purchased a Qi wireless charging mat on Amazon. I also have a popsocket on the back of my otterbox symmetry case. It takes me several minutes to get the mat to "charge" my phone and even when it does indicate it is "charging" the battery does not move and will even go down overtime. Does anyone else have this issue or know a solution? I'm thinking the case in combination with the popsocket make too large a barrier for the mat to charge the phone.

This article said that they tried putting a cloth, a comic book, a plastic cutting board, a DVD box, and a stainless steel pot between a phone (Nokia DT-901) and a wireless charger and the only one that affected it was the pot. It also said that there is a difference between Qi standard and Qi certified. I would say the best test for you though is does it charge normally if you take the case off? If it does and you have problems with the case on then it's probably an issue with the case being too thick, the popsocket, or both.
