iOS 11 Maps horizontal view issue

In iOS 10, you could view Maps in landscape mode and collapse information bar at the bottom of the screen. In iOS 11, that now shows up on the left side when in landscape mode with no apparent way to collapse it. See screen shots (one from my iPhone 6 with 10.3.3 and the other from my iPhone 8 with 11.0)

Does anyone know how to collapse the window on the left so I can view Maps in landscape mode like in the first image? I've tried swiping various parts of the screen with no luck. Without being able to collapse that window, it pretty much renders horizontal view pointless.
