I want to buy an unlocked phone to use in Colombia

Be careful as SIM Free is not the same as Unlocked. Some Sim Free phones will accept any Sim that you put into them but immediately lock to that carrier. Always best to get an Unlocked phone direct from Apple.

A Sim Free iPhone bought directly from Apple will be unlocked, and should work in Colombia with GSM carriers.

iPhones bought from other retailers like Bestbuy or Target, may require activation on a US carrier, and may also lock to that carrier when activated.

So its best to just buy from Apple directly.

As mentioned, the warranty will only be valid in the U.S though.

Yes. If bought directly from Apple, either in a store, or from the online store website, it will be sim free, unlocked, and usable in Colombia as long as you make sure you request or select the Sim Free version.

Note that to purchase from the Online store, you will need a valid U.S. Credit card with a U.S. billing address, and you will need to have it shipped to a U.S. address, or U.S. store for pickup.

The U.S. online store will not ship to Colombia or anywhere outside the U.S.
