loop slideshow in photos

I'm trying to loop a slideshow in Photos and have clicked the "loop" button on. It doesn't loop; it just stops at the end of the slides. I've double-checked everything I know to do. I created an album, made it into a "project." I tried exporting to desktop. I don't have Keynote, which I would have to buy. But it seems like "loop" should work--but how?

I have a 2007 Mac desktop running OS X El Capitan, version 10.11.6 (which I can't seem to update), 4 GB. Photos version 1.5.

Yes. The loop feature should work. I don't know why it isn't.

If you export your slideshow as a movie to your desktop, you can view it in Quicktime Player and make is loop there. In Quicktime, select View/Loop.

Re updating from El Capitan, have you tried clicking on the App store icon and then clicking on the "Apps made by Apple" in the right hand side bar? Try that and see if you can upgrade to Sierra or High Sierra. That would give you a new version of Photos.

If the slideshow is not looping automatically, does it loops least, if you use the right arrow key when the slideshow is pausing to jump back to the first slide?

It is a pity, that your Mac is stuck on El Capitan, otherwise, on Sierra, you could download Keynote or iMovie for free.
