Running High Sierra, my portrait mode photos now display a tag **Invalid: IPXSDOFBadgeLabel** in the upper left corner. See the screenshot attached.
This is reproducible on all the Portrait Mode photos taken on my iPhone 8+ and those from my 7+
Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.4)
The only way I succeeded in resolving it was deleting my local Photos library and then creating a new Photos library and re-downloading all the images. Obviously, this was an extreme measure, but nothing else seemed to work.
As a test launch Photos with the Option key held down and create a new, test library. Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
and when you made the test library what occured?

I'm in the epically-long process of rebuilding my library. I'll report back once I do if this solves the problem and brings my portraits gallery back.
It's a local problem of some type because on my iPad and iPhone using iCloud Photo Library, all looks good.
Filing a Radar with apple but I am curious if anyone else has seen this.
Yes on Portrait Mode iPhone 7+ when viewed in photos
I am not seeing that - and interesting that you do not have a Portrait album under media type or a Portrait badge on the photo - photo also from an iPhone 7 Plus
