Text Message sending gibberish!

When I am texting my friend from my iPhone 7 plus, I type a message out and if it is longer than 1 line long when he opens it the message is nothing more than scrambled symbols and markings that do not seem to happen in a pattern. I can read the text messages perfectly fine on my end, but on my buddies phone its nothing but symbols and shape vomit. Is this an IOS 11 bug? Yes, I am up to date on software. Anyone else experiencing this?
