Notes app lag in MacOs High Sierra.

I tried the usual. disconnect from iCloud and reconnect. No improvement.

so after studying these threads some more I:

• unticked all edit/Subsitiutions
• close (Cmd Q) notes and re-open

This appears to solve at least for now. I have turned 'smart lists' back on because that is 99% of my outlining. I will try this for a few days.

I conclude this is related to smart paste /smart quotes etc.

I will try this until the next update.

I think it's the system font, SF Text. When I use cmd-T to open the font picker and choose a different font, that lag goes away. In my testing the system font is the only one that has the lag.

The lag in editing etc. in Notes is resolved for me under macOS 10.13.1. Hooray! Thanks, Apple (I posted the bug as feedback to High Sierra).

So far, my best "patch" for this is to quit Notes (CMD - Q) and restart.

a periodic Cmd Q definitely works. I will still await 11.1 before I turn back on Edit/Substitutions.

Same goes for me. I turned all Edit/Substitutions back on, and so far, touch wood all is well under macOS 10.13.1.

just a thought. Did you Cmd Q and reopen Notes?

Takes too long to wait for the app to catch up so I have gotten into the habit of "shaking" the page by moving it up and down slightly when there is a lag. Not a solution, but I find it helpful.

It's a pretty common issue. It appears to be something with trying to update high quantity of words in notes while trying to be a live update in the cloud. Not exactly sure. I can reproduce it but some that have a lot of words work fine and others don't.

I have this problem as well. My Notes collection has about 2000 notes, many of which have lists and images. The performance lag is a huge issue, making the application nearly unusable for me.

The "Apple Recommended" work-around to disable substitutions did not work for me. Maybe I didn't understand what to do. I selected "Substitutions" under the "Edit" menu and unchecked all of the options.

I wonder if there is some other issue in your situation. Do you have an unusually high graphic content in your notes. Or do you keep your notes all in one large note?

I have the same issue under High Sierra, and confirm it wasn't happening in Sierra or earlier. And indeed it makes using the Notes app a frustrating business. The additions all sounded so good too!
