Random photos vanished from iPhone after iCloud backup

Hi guys,

week ago i tried to turn on iCloud photo library backup on my iPhone 6s and somehow i'm missing some photos across the whole iphone photo library since then, looks like random photos vanished from iPhone but they are not on iCloud as well:-( some of they had just few days so i don't have any backup in my Macbook.

Any ideas how to fix it?

Thanks

Hello Allen,

U get it right, but I saw these tips before but none works for me. Photos weren’t deleted or hidden, they disappeared right after turning on icloud photo library on my iphone. Weird is they are random photos or through the whole camera roll, for examle few days ago i’m suddenly missing half day of photos. Some of those photos were edited and saved to Camera roll from Camera+ editing app. But not all of these are missing so not sure if it has any connection...

Hello littleCube.
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If I'm understanding correctly, since turning on iCloud Photo Library you have notice that some photos are missing. I know that my photos are important to me and I'll be happy to help.

Check out the steps below to see if it helps from our article: Get help with missing photos

If you're missing a photo or video from your Photos app, try these tips to help you find it again.

Check your Recently Deleted folder

You might have accidentally deleted your photo or video, and now it's in the Recently Deleted folder.

Go to Photos > Albums > Recently Deleted. If you see the missing photo, you can
move it back into your All Photos album.

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:

  1. Tap Select.
  2. Tap the photo or video > Recover.
  3. Confirm that you want to recover the photo.

On your Mac:

  1. Click the photo or video.
  2. Click Recover.

Anything in your Recently Deleted folder stays there for 30 days. After that, it's gone forever.

Make sure iCloud Photo Library is turned on

iCloud Photo Library securely stores all your photos and videos in iCloud, so that you can access them on all your devices. If you took a photo on your iPhone but don't see it on your other devices, check your settings.

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:

  1. Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud. If you're using iOS 10.2 or earlier, go to Settings > iCloud.
  2. Tap Photos.
  3. Turn on iCloud Photo Library.

On your Mac:

  1. Go to System Preferences > iCloud.
  2. Next to Options, click Photos.
  3. Select iCloud Photo Library.

After you turn on iCloud Photo Library, connect to Wi-Fi and wait a few minutes. Then look for your photos again.

Photos that you add to your device with iTunes won't stay up to date with iCloud. Get help if you have photos from iTunes.

Sign in with the same Apple ID

For your photos and videos to stay up to date on all of your devices, make sure that you sign in to iCloud with the same Apple ID on every device.

You can check which Apple ID your device is using in Settings or System Preferences. You'll see your name and email address. Your email address is your Apple ID.

Unhide your photos

If you hide your photos and videos in your Moments, Years, and Collections view, then you'll only see them in your Hidden album. You can unhide your photos and videos from the Hidden album.

On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:

  1. Open the Photos app and go to the Albums tab.
  2. Tap the Hidden album.
  3. Select the photo or video that you want to unhide.
  4. Tap User uploaded file > Unhide.

On your Mac:

  1. Open Photos and in the menu bar, click View > Show Hidden Photo Album.
  2. Open Albums view, then open the Hidden Photos Album.
  3. Select the photo or video that you want to unhide.
  4. Control-click the photo.
  5. Click Unhide Photo.

If you use iCloud Photo Library, the photos that you hide on one device are hidden on your other devices too.

Cheer.
