connect ipod to stereo receiver

I am looking to buy a new receiver to hook my TV, DVD, Direct TV, DVR, etc all together. I would like to be able to hook my ipod up to the stereo receiver to play my ipod tunes in my open house through the stereo. Would prefer not to spend a lot, what are my options? Are there receivers that have USB ports for this purpose?

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I happened to have an A/V Cable at home, which is 3-banded 3.5mm single pin at one end, and Yellow/White/Red RCA connection at the other end. If you have one of these, you can easily connect your iPod to your Amp/Receiver/Mini Systems to play music, and to your TV/Display unit to play Video. Your Amp/Receiver should have a Line-In option (or even dedicated RCA ports for CD/MD/Tape/etc). And your TV should have the Y/W/R RCA ports. This is cheapest option, and my Amp & TV could play just fine.

The only hitch is, Apple seems to have swapped the Y/W/R pins rather non-standard. Refer http://www.oreillynet.com/pub/a/mac/2005/11/18/video-ipod.html to know which should go where.

Cheers!

The easiest option is to just use a mini jack to RCA cable to connect your iPod or iPod dock to your receiver which would allow you to listen to your music and control your music from the receiver location.

Another option, as MacRicky suggested, is to use the AirPort Express Base Station with AirTunes. This involves your computer sending/sharing out your music across your local wireless network to the wireless receiver that you would connect to your stereo receiever.

The downside to that is if your receiever is on the ground floor, and your computer is on a different floor, you will have to go to your computer to change the tracks or playlist as you will not be able to change that from the receiever. Essentially, its as if you're running a local radio station from your computer in iTunes and picking it up at a different location in the house.

Another option is the new Apple TV, which comes out in February and is essentially the same as the Air Port Express receiver except that Apple TV also lets you send/share video wirelessly over your network as well.

Of course, its three times more expensive and unless you have video to share its not relevant.
