How to stop XprotectService?

Hi,

After upgrading to macOS High Sierra, I noticed there's a "XprotectService" trying to verify every files on the external HDD.

Sometimes it takes forever, but sometimes it got through, and most of the time it just froze. I guess it depend on how big the file I'm trying to open.

How to stop the "XprotectService" from verifying every files?

If it could be stopped, will it affect anything on the macOS High Sierra?

Hi etresoft,

That might be the culprit, I'm going to buy a new backup external HDD.

Is there a better way than copying the files (in the broken external HDD) into my MacBook and then transfer them to the new external HDD? Because I'm using a MacBook 12", which means I only got one USB-C port, and I don't have a USB-C hub.
