Apple TV 4K not coming out of sleep with LG OLED TV

I have had luck by following apples trouble shooting guide.

I ordered the ultra high speed hdmi cable from apples website, switched to a different hdmi input on my tv (check your manual to determine which inputs support hdr) and also double checked that my TVs input settings were switched to enhanced to support hdr. Everything seems to be hunky Dory now.

My LG OLED and Apple TV 4K is also experiencing the same problem. I think you are correct in saying it happens after you have not been using your Apple TV 4K for a while. Some other threads with different issues relating the HDR are talking about the HDMI Cable needing to be a newer type with enhanced capabilities. I am using an HDMI cable that I have had for many years, yet the HDR test between my Apple TV 4K and the LG OLED TV worked fine. In any case my only solution to the lack of an HDMI port on the TV thinking there is no signal / no device connected is to pull the power on the Apple TV 4K and then plugging it back in.

I should also mention that there was another post regarding this problem that said they depressed the TV button on their Apple TV 4K Remote and then a signal was sent. I have not as yet tried that. Also another post on a different issue talks about changing an HDMI setting in their TV (not necessarily an LG) was changed to an "Enhanced" setting vs. Standard and that solved their HDR issue.

I have this issue as well. Funny thing, is that my setup worked fine from the start. Then it stopped working, I did a reset of the Apple TV 4K, and now it works again.

I have the same problem with my apple tv. I don't have an 4k or HDR tv, using a sony hd tv and get the same problem. But instead of cutting the power you can hold down the menu and tv button same time for about 6sec and the apple tv will do a restart and the picture should be back.

I have tried three different hdmi cables and done a reinstallation of iOS 11 but no lock getting the problem fixed.

The first update 11.1 didn't do anything either.

I’m also having the same issue on my Sony tv. It also seems that the tv does not always know to allow hdr content or not even after a reboot. Also I’m having issues with pass through through my surround sound system.

me too. Using a KU6290 Samsung (6 series, 40"). If I don't use for a few days, I have to power cycle for it to recover. Multiple HDMI cables and switching TV inputs no luck.

Same problem here with a Samsung suhd 2016 tv. When I dont use the atv4k for 2 days it will not turn on and I have to unplug the powercord, the device is very warm!
