Apple watch 3 pre-Vodafone release

Hi,

I wonder if someone could help me out, i would like to purchase an apple watch 3 + cellular. However, my phone contract is with Vodafone. Am i able to purchase the apple 3 + cellular watch pre-vodafone launch and add a sim to the device after purchase at any time?

Im keen to own one and start using it for the health tracking. But I'm not sure on the actual hardware situation. (is it a built in sim card) or do you have a slot like the iPhone to add your own sim once Vodafone release the e-sim?

If anyone has some insight into this problem this would help.

Many thanks,

Will

Hi

Apple Watch (GPS + Cellular) is not locked to any specific carrier and has a built-in eSIM that copies information from the iPhone's SIM card.

The built-in cellular features require a carrier plan that specifically includes support for Apple Watch (including the carrier activating the device on the plan):

Apple Watch - Carriers - Apple

If you do not wish to sign up with a supported carrier for now, then you cannot currently use the built-in cellular feature.

However, Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS + Cellular) can still be paired, set up and used for other features whilst skipping the steps to activate cellular. The cellular feature can then be enabled later, if and when you are using a compatible service plan on your iPhone.
