iPad Smart Cover leaving rust on iPad?
iPad Air Wi-Fi + Cellular, iOS 9.3.5
Yes.
This is normal, but it IS a defect with the smart covers made by Apple for the iPad 2, 3 and 4 models.
Because of the nature of iron magnets, there is a certain amount of metals galvanisation (metals transfer/exchange) going on between the ironin the magnets and aluminum body of the iPad.
This results in some rust marks or scuff/scratch-like marks.
There a couple of fixes for this.
First, brush/paint on clear nail polish on the magnetic contact areas of the magnets on both the cover and iPad
OR
You can do as it did, get a small roll of clear , heavy duty box packing tape, cut a thin strip of the tape to go along the edge of the iPad in the location where the magnets are on the iPad 2 ( I made one long continous length thin strip from magnet to magnet ).
And cover the contact areas of the magnets on the smart cover, also.
This should alleviate any more further issues with this, but the marks you have now will remain.
Good Luck to You!
