garageband 10.2 and jam pack's

Hi all,

I'm using garageband 10.2 with my MacBook Pro touch bar. I have some original jam pack cd's, and I want to install all the instruments and loops from the cd's to the app on my Mac. how can I do it?

Some of the old JamPacks installers include code, that will only run on a PowerPC and cause errors on an Intel Mac.

See the instructions on the Bullets&Bones FAQ how to work around this obstacle: http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/FAQPages/InstallJamPack10.7.html

I took the easy way out and purchased MainStage 3. It will install all JamPacks in the same directories as GarageBand is using, so GarageBand 10 can use them, if you rebuild the Loop index in GarageBand. You just need to launch MainStage once and download all additional content.

does MainStage 3 include all original 5 jam packs

yes, once you installed MainStage 3 launch it. In the Main Stage 3 main menu go to "Sound Library", then launch the "Sound Library Manager".

It will let you select, which sounds and loops to install. The Jam Packs are in the "Legacy" section, you can select both the sounds and the loops to install.

If you have the original CDs, then they should include an installer, that puts the files in the right places.

Without the installer file it gets a little bit more tricky.

Because thes are factory sounds, the installer stores them in the system directory. You can just drag them to the appropriate place manually, but that cause cause permission issues.

The Apple Loop are stored in the system Library directory /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/

The Instrument files are more complicated because they are stroed in the /Library/Applications Support/Logic/ or /Library/Applications Support/GarageBand/

In addition the Instrument files and samples (audio files are stored in different sub folders.

If you are not familiar with the file structure of GarageBand and Logic (both share many files and directories) then I wouldn't do it manually and rely on the installer file.

Hope that helps
