Siri Keeps Activating On Its Own

Hi,

Ever since I updated to watchOS 4 on my series 2, Siri keeps activating its self. It’s quite annoying as it vibrates every time it starts listening for a comman. I keep thinking that I got a new notification. This happens every few minutes it is quite excessive and I am not sure what’s causing this issue. As an example, this occurs many times through my time in the gym while workout with headphones, I am not touching the device or speaking to it. I am curious if anyone else is having such issues or if anyone has any remedies.

To be honest, I don’t even care for Siri on my watch, but to my knowledge I don’t think there’s a way to shut it off only on the watch.

Any ideas?

Thank you.

Hi

The behaviour that you have described is consistent with the Digital Crown being pressed and held down.

If your Apple Watch is worn too close to your hand, then the Digital Crown may be pressed and held down by the back of your hand when flexing your wrist. If so:

  • It may help to wear your Apple Watch a little further up your arm.
  • It may otherwise help to wear your Apple Watch with the buttons on the other side and/or on your other wrist:

To change the configuration: on your iPhone, in the Watch app, go to: My Watch (tab) > General > Watch Orientation > choose the preferred wrist and side for the buttons.

Otherwise, operation of the Digital Crown can be affected by substances like dust. Should it stop operating as expected, then it may help to clean it by following the steps here:

Use the Digital Crown on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

If the issue persists after following the recommended cleaning procedure, then I suggest that you contact Apple Support (mail-in service may be available, if required), make a Genius Bar reservation or visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider with a view to arranging for your watch to be inspected and, if recommended, serviced:

I am having this same issue. An example; I was cutting grass yesterday with a push mower. Every 30 seconds to 1 minute Siri would activate. My wrist was NOT bent enough to push and hold the crown. Sometimes I would be pushing the mower over a bumpy patch and Siri would activate.

This isn't the only time. It happens quite frequently. Recently I was running (wrist NOT bent) and Siri kept activating!
